This is very well engineered and built. It is solid and all components are of a high quality. The included reflector is a nice touch. If one does not have a large SUV and still wants to carry three bikes using a platform-style bike rack, this is likely the only option, besides the Saris Thelma 3. Contrasting the two, this Hollywood rack is *heavy*. With a full complement of bikes, you will have around 200 pounds hanging off the back of your car. Plan you cargo accordingly. The key difference for me is that this rack offers more flexibility. It can carry the widest variety of bikes without added expense. As an example, if I want to ride with my niece and nephew, who have bikes with 20" wheels, I have to buy 2 wheel adapters that are more than $50 each. After considering the higher up-front cost for the Saris, it seems that Hollywood offers a more versatile and economical option. The included hitch and bike locks add to the overall value.



Still there is room for improvement. The Hollywood Sportrider SE 3 needs to go on a 15+ lb. diet. It is just a bit unwieldy and for the most part, one is forced to keep it on the car. It is big, ugly and inconvenient, for it does use release levers or hydraulics to make moving it from the storage to carrying positions easier as most premium racks do. Instead users have to insert and remove locking pins. Additionally, it could use ratcheting arms to hold the bikes. This would make for faster loading as well as a more secure hold on the bicycle frames. Finally, the instructions are not well written. They do not completely explain what everything does. It seems that it was written by engineers who never consulted with lay people at all. Still, I would say that most riders will be pleased with this rack. It has shortcomings but for those who find a two bike limit for most 1 and ¼ " racks restrictive, this may be the best choice, right now. It should be noted that at the time of this writing a new company, "Kuat" is planning on making an all-aluminum platform rack, the "NV" which is supposed to be light, strong portable and hold 2+1 bikes. Comparing their prototype to the SE is akin to what many people say about Mac vs. PC. A PC may work OK but lacks the kind of attention to aethestic and ergonomics that many people really appreciate. The Hollywood Racks HR1200 Sport Rider SE 3-Bike Platform Style Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver) are all function--they get the job done but are not for everyone mainly because they are not easy to use.

We have used it twice and it works well, I bought a 1.25" hitch for our Honda Odyssey 1999 to match the 1.25 receiver on this rack, it works well but does seem to bounce alot on the freeway. Other than that it worked great!

I'm satisfied with this rack. It's well designed, easy to switch out, and sturdy. The hinge at the base allows easy access to our tailgate even when the rack is loaded. The only drawback is that the individual bike holders slip relative to each other over time such that bikes will not be parallel to the bumper but rather skewed at some angle. This can probably be easily remedied with some sort of stopper (i.e. electrical tape) but I'm yet to try this.

I purchased this bike rack for occasional afternoon rides. It was all i expected and more. It is sturdily built and easy to install. (suggest having 2 people for installation). The rack comes on and off very easy and and is tight with the car on bumps and curves. Wobbles little or none with tie straps. I would definitely recommend this. Not only does it look good but it performs well. I can now drive with it on my car without even glancing back.

Solid construction - about 30lbs out of the box. Tough gray outer coating on the tubes. Thick sidewalls on the tubes and hitch insert. Hollywood does good to have a hitch pin lock and top bar lock included with the rack. Anti-wobble feature and small anti-sway bar work well. Carried two Konas easily. I liked the quality of this product - as good or better than racks from the other two common name manufacturers I looked at.



Hollywood Racks customer service is great. I had to have one small accessory part replaced that was damaged in shipping. They had the new part to me by the end of the week. Good communication and no hassle. Nice people to deal with.

I've used this rack about twice a week for six months now. Works perfectly with the hitch I had mounted on my Civic. I'm in and out of my trunk often for work, and this rack allows for plenty of clearance. Before I bought this on Amazon, I checked out the really expensive brands in the bike stores, and this Hollywood rack seems just as well made for less than half the cost.

As a side note, I bought a small steel combination lock at Target that I use in place of my hitch pin - could be used with any rack. Certainly not a guarantee the rack won't disappear, but it's a little extra security for a few bucks so thought I'd mention it.

I've used this hitch-rack for a couple of years now. I had it properly mounted on my Prius. Because my bike frames are on the small size, the bike tucks nicely in the wind-shadow of the Prius so that there's minimum impact from the bike on the Prius' gas mileage. Carry the bike on the roof and watch your mileage plummet. Off the back on a hitch rack is the next best thing to carrying the bike in the Prius.

This is a great bike rack for the back of my Subaru Forester. It fits my Electra Townie bike perfectly and I don't have to lift the bike up too high. At first the side straps kept slipping down until (duh!) I figured out that they have to be attached higher on the trunk where they will not slip. This rack is very easy to put on and take off.
