"Still doesn't help much with kids bikes" 2008-08-14
By M. Anthony (Camden, DE)
None of our kids' bikes would fit on the swagman bike rack we got as a gift so we had to get one of these. The problem is that the bar is too long to fit the way they tell you to attach it. In fact it barely would have worked on our adult bikes, if we had needed to use the adapter. My husband had to figure out a different way to put it on. It's not a simple way but it at least allows us to take the kids' bikes.

"I should have ordered these years ago!" 2008-06-29
By M. VanBuskirk (Rochester, MI USA)
Great product. I should have ordered them much earlier. We have been lifting and loading 3 of 4 mountain bikes on the lower bar and upside down for years. This adapter makes it so much easier! I ordered 2 different ones and we like this one best because of the locking feature on each end. I will be ordering 1 more.

"I love these gunwale brackets" 2008-07-31
By Don Jr (Rochester, NY USA)
I use these on 66" cross bars along with two Viper bike racks. Works perfectly. Take them off when n ot using them so the sun doesn't destroy them. People who leave their racks on their vehicles are making a bad choice. The sun destroys everything.

Product seemed good, but it would not fit my 2008 RAV4 (cross bars too wide). Returned the purchase for refund.

Good product. Works as advertised. Easy to adjust. Easy to steal. I wish they were theftproof. This product, combined with the Yakima Bow/Stern tiedowns make for a rock steady setup that holds our 16'4" Kevlar canoe rock solid on my Explorer.

 "it works" 2009-09-03

pads on rack want to fall off the foot when pressure is not applied, clips not fasten like they say, but with the door closed it does not move. all in all it works fine for the money.

"Good for very short trips" 2009-08-21
By Ladyflower
I bought this so that I can buy larger items at the store and not have to worry if they'll fit in the trunk of my Ford Focus. I recently used it to get some large trash cans home and it worked perfectly. However, I wouldn't recommend this for long trips as it makes a very loud whining/buzzing sound if you drive above 40 mph. It does attach very tightly and securely inside the door frames, so no worries about the rack shifting or falling off. However, the roof of my car is slightly curved and the feet on the rack do not tilt so only one edge of each foot sits on the roof - worries me about putting too much weight up there and it denting the roof. The rubber bottoms of the feet are terrible - they barely attach. If you take the rack off your car you will need to put the rubber bottoms in a bag and attach them to the rack or you will lose them. Overall, it does what I need it to do so I'm satisfied with it.

 "Bad Hold Down Mechanism" 2009-07-18
By David L. Granteer (Clearwater, FL)
The carrier itself is good, but the mechanism to hold it to the roof of the car is abominable to the point of being dangerous. Whether it works properly depends very much on the design of the vehicle, as it does not have very good adjustment capabilities.

 "Highland Roof top carrier" 2009-04-21
By Gayas Ahmed (Birmingham, AL)
Highland 35036 Black Universal Car Roof Top Basket Carrier is a good product. Comes out real handy when you don't have enough room in your car trunk. Very light and easy to mount on the rood of the car.

The only disadvantage is that it can be easly stollen if left in the public parking places. Over all I am satisfied with this product.

 "Great Roof Top Carrier" 2008-10-18
By Nytehawq (Norhtern VA)
My family and I, 5 of us, like to head to the beach for the summer. We only own sedans, which makes hauling boogie boards and beach chairs for everyone a bit difficult. Using this carrier along with a "car roof bag" solved the problem. It keeps items off the roof and allows us to bring all of our beach stuff along. It is sturdy and stays in place relatively well. It made a 900 mile round trip without any problems. A previous roof top carrier I owned had one of the legs snap during a trip and scratched up the roof of my car. For some reason it had a flex joint in the legs. The legs on this one is solid and very thick and strong.

 "Instructions don't match item" 2009-09-07
By James Claiborn (South Portland ME, USA)
I should have read the reviewer who said shred the instruction book. I made the mistake of trying to follow the instructions. The book contains drawings of an item with a different number of straps so I was confused at best. I tried to attach it in what seemed an intuitive way. I thought things were fine, put two bikes on it and started on a trip. I was fine the first mile then got on the highway. I fortunately was not far from the next exit because by the time I got off the highway a half mile later The rack was in a very different position. I fortunately can get the bikes in the back of my SUV and had to put everything inside to get it home.

I am reasonably literate, I have a PhD so you would think I could attach a bike rack. It suggests to me that the thing was not well designed.

 "Do Not Buy" 2009-07-18
By KC (MA)
I can not believe how many positive responses there are for this product. Now i got this as a gift and at first look it seems like a well built easy to use bike rack but there is one key problem, there is no way to lock down the arm that supports the bikes. You are suppose to push in the red buttons and move it into place but once you do there is this really weak locking system that is suppose to keep it in place. It did not look very safe to me so before i even though of putting my bike on it i applied a little downward pressure on the arms and it just popped out of place. Now it may hold for a little while but once you hit an average bump in the road ou end up scratching your car and dragging your bikes on the road behind you. Now maybe i am missing something but i refuse to even take a chance and try it out.

 "overall poor design" 2009-03-02
By Matthew Bennett
Pro: inexpensive, fits trunk as it claimed it would for my car.

Cons: It lacks the ability to manually adjust the angle meaning that for my car the rack was add a ridiculously elevated angle (about 55 degrees).

It lacks side straps and therefore had a significant side sway.

It lacked a vertical strap to keep the bike from swaying and sometimes hitting the bumper of my car.

Overall the design of this trunk bike rack is poor. If you're never planning on driving on the highway with it, then this bike rack could work fine for you. I ended up paying a little over double for a Saris bike rack and I PROMISE you, it is worth every last penny! Dish out the extra and protect both your car and your bike!

 "Better than anticipated" 2009-01-20
By J. Irias
I have had this for a couple years now and it has held up pretty well. I mostly use it for short trips to the park. I recently moved and used this rack to transport my bike. It held tight the entire trip, all 3,000 miles of it, while driving an avg of 70mph. Neither the bike nor the rack budged. Didn't know if it would hold, but I crossed my fingers and came out fine
